Sunsetting is a fusion of real and virtual space. The performance space is not partitioned by social or functional hierarchy; in it, performers and listeners are free to move unencumbered. The physical space also corresponds to a two-dimensional mapping of horn technique as a possibility space. Lines that are parallel to the boundaries (axes) of the space trace out sonic and technical affinities. Thus, the position of a performer in space determines the sound that performer produces and the technical means used to produce that sound. Likewise, the position of a listener in space determines what sonic elements will be foregrounded.
