water(l)ily holds a special place in my heart: it was the first music I wrote after moving to Chicago in the late summer of 2010.  I showed up without a bed and with practically no money so for the first month after my arrival, I mostly stayed in and worked on this piece.  It is also one in a long line of collaborations between myself and violinist Austin Wulliman dating back to when we were college roommates.  The ambiguous title originated in a misreading of Virginia Woolf.

water(l)ily was premiered by Austin Wulliman on January 20, 2011 at Nichols Hall in Evanston, Illinois.
